Reading Skill: Author's Purpose (P.I.E. - Persuade, Inform, Entertain)

Reading Story: Pushing Up the Sky (Test Friday)

Language:  Helping  Verbs (Test Friday)
We will be learning about main and helping verbs.  The main verb shows action.  A helping verb shows the time of the action. Examples:
-She will talk to you. (will is the helping verb that tells that the action (talk) will happen in the future)
-She is talking to you. (is is the helping verb that tells that the action is happening right now in the present tense.  "-ing" and "-s" are often needed at the end of action verbs to show that the action is happening right now.)
-She has talked to you. (has is the helping verb that tells that the action happened in the past.  An "-ed" was added to the end of the main verb which also shows past tense.
-Because helping verbs are hard for children to identify, we're singing this song in class: (sung to the tune of "Jingle Bells.")
