Reading: Main Idea of Non-Fiction
-This
9 week period students will have a reading response menu to complete at
home about their nightly reading. There is a rubric attached if you have any
questions. Students only need to choose ONE question and answer it.
-On Friday, students will turn
in their response about their reading to me as proof of their nightly reading
assignment. Students are assigned a MINIMUM of 20 minutes of reading
each night.
Vocabulary:
Unit 2 - Week 1: gradually, merchant, essential, fortunate, immense
Word Study: Unit 6.2 (diagraphs: ph, gh, tch)
-10 words to study (either the regular or challenge)
-3 No Excuse
Words for writing. These words don't follow patterns, but are common in
writing. Students will need to write these words in a sentence.
-Students will NOT be given 10 additional words that follow the
spelling pattern for the week.
-Test on Friday
Math: Unit 3: Module 1 - Rounding and Multi-Digit Addition
-Unit 2 Test MONDAY - A practice test went home Thursday/Friday to prepare.
-Timed Multiplication Quizzes
-Students will continue timed quizzes on T, W, and TH.until they have passes their 10s.
-They will complete fact homework on T, W, and TH nights to prepare.
-Students have 3 minutes to complete the quiz and must get at least 37/40 facts correct to advance to the next set of facts.
-Students can also create flashcards, use apps, or play online
games to help them study. www.multiplication.com is one the best...and
it's free!
Writing: Writing Reading Responses
-Students will begin their research projects this week. We will be learning how to write informational text by creating a book about a specific animal.
-For
grammar (Mentor Sentence) we are focusing on contractions and possessives and also quotations.
Students MAY bring home an extra practice sheet Thursday,
but isn't mandatory to complete.
-Students will have a Mentor Sentence quiz on Friday.
Social Studies: North America
- Students will bring home a practice map Monday.
- They will have a quiz on Friday and will need to label North America, Unites States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, Alaska, and Hawaii
