Reading: Non-Fiction Text and Features
-This 9 week period students will have a reading response menu to complete at home about their nightly reading. We will be practicing how to complete one in class. There is a rubric attached if you have any questions. Students only need to choose one question and answer it.
-On Friday, students will turn
in their response about their reading to me as proof of their nightly reading
assignment. Students are assigned a MINIMUM of 20 minutes of reading
each night.
Vocabulary:
Unit 1-Week 1: fragile, research, defend, specific, pledge
Unit 1-Week 2: assemble, elegant, privilege, calculate, grumble
Unit 1-Week 3: pause, gasp, ancient, observe, brief
Unit 1-Week 4: convince, swiftly, rely, rare, precise
Unit 1-Week 5: oppose, snide, heap, diverse, origin
Unit 1-Week 6: redundant, gesture, acknowledge, clutch, persevere
Unit 1-Week 7: literal, dialogue, rival, passion, claim
Unit 1-Week 8: acquire, thesis, loathe, rapidly, convey
-Vocabulary lists will come home every two weeks (5 words per week).
-Week 7/8 Test this Friday. Students will also have an open notebook test over all 8 weeks.
Word Study: Unit 6.1 (diagraphs: th, ch, wh, sh)
-10 words to study (either the regular or challenge)
-3 No Excuse
Words for writing. These words don't follow patterns, but are common in
writing. Students will need to write these words in a sentence.
-Students will also be given 10 additional words that follow the
spelling pattern for the week. They will not be
given these words to study, but should apply the pattern of the week. Look at the letter for possible combinations of letters/sounds
-Test on Friday
Math: Unit 2: Multiplication Story Problems, Graphs, and Ratio Tables
-Unit 2 Test NEXT MONDAY - A practice test will come home this Thursday/Friday to prepare.
-Timed Multiplication Quizzes
-Students will have a timed quiz on T, W, and TH.
-They will complete fact homework on T, W, and TH nights to prepare.
-Students have 3 minutes to complete the quiz and must get at least 37/40 facts correct to advance to the next set of facts.
-Students can also create flashcards, use apps, or play online games to help them study. www.multiplication.com is one the best...and it's free!
Writing: Writing Reading Responses
-This week we will be learning the proper way to respond to reading using text evidence.
-For
grammar (Mentor Sentence) we are studying superlative adjectives.
Students MAY bring home an extra practice sheet Thursday,
but isn't mandatory to complete.
-Students will have a Mentor Sentence quiz on Friday.
