Language: Adverbs that Compare (Test Friday) An adverb is a word that tells how, when, or where something happens.  A lot of adverbs end in the suffix "ly".  Adverbs that compare two actions would start with the word more or end in the suffix -er.  Adverbs that compare three or more actions would start with the word most or end in the suffix -est
