Reading: Cause and Effect of Non-Fiction

-On Friday, students will turn in their response about their reading to me as proof of their nightly reading assignment. Students are assigned a MINIMUM of 20 minutes of reading each night.  
 
Vocabulary:     
Unit 2 - Week 1: gradually, merchant, essential, fortunate, immense
Unit 2 - Week 2: lob, tremble, skeptic, propose, inflate
Unit 2- Week 3: isolated, alter, gullible, emphasize, novice
 

Word Study: Unit 8 (Long E: ea, ey, ee, i, ie)  
-10 words to study (either the regular or challenge)
-3 No Excuse Words for writing. These words don't follow patterns, but are common in writing. Students will need to write these words in a sentence. 
-Students will also be given 10 additional words that follow the spelling pattern for the week.  
-Test on Friday  

Math: Unit 3: Module 3 - Estimating to Add and Subtract
-Students will continue timed quizzes on T, W, and TH.until they have passed their 10s.
-They will complete fact homework on T, W, and TH nights to prepare.
-Students have 3 minutes to complete the quiz and must get at least 37/40 facts correct to advance to the next set of facts. 
-Students can also create flashcards, use apps, or play online games to help them study.  www.multiplication.com is one the best.


Writing: Writing Informational Text
-Students will continue their research projects this week.  We will be learning how to write informational text by creating a book about a specific animal. 
-For grammar (Mentor Sentence) we are focusing on adjectives. Students MAY bring home an extra practice sheet Thursday, but isn't mandatory to complete.  
-Students will have a Mentor Sentence quiz on Friday.   

Social Studies: The United States (Southwest Region) 
- Students will bring home a practice map Monday.  
- They will have a quiz on Friday and will need to label the states of the southwest PLUS the states from last week .

November 8th: No school - Election Day  
November 10th: 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade Thanksgiving Lunch
November 15th: 3rd Grade Music Performance @ 6:00 (be here at 5:45)
November 21st: 3rd-5th Grade Coffee House @ 5:30
