September 26th

Reading: Literal/Non-Literal Language
-On Friday, students will turn in a letter about their reading to me as proof of their nightly reading assignment. Students are assigned a MINIMUM of 20 minutes of reading each night.



Vocabulary:     
Unit 1-Week 1: fragile, research, defend, specific, pledge  

Unit 1-Week 2: assemble, elegant, privilege, calculate, grumble
   

Unit 1-Week 3: pause, gasp, ancient, observe, brief   
 
 

Unit 1-Week 4: convince, swiftly, rely, rare, precise

Unit 1-Week 5: oppose, snide, heap, diverse, origin
Unit 1-Week 6: redundant, gesture, acknowledge, clutch, persevere  
Unit 1-Week 7: literal, dialogue, rival, passion, claim 
-Vocabulary lists will come home every two weeks (5 words per week).  
   








Word Study: Unit 5 (-ng, -nk glides)  
-10 words to study (either the regular or challenge)

-3 No Excuse Words for writing. These words don't follow patterns, but are common in writing. Students will need to write these words in a sentence. 
-Students will also be given 10 additional words that follow the spelling pattern for the week.  They will not be given these words to study, but should apply the pattern of the week.  Look at the letter for possible combinations of letters/sounds
-Test on Friday  

 
Math: Unit 2: Multiplication with arrays and number lines
-Timed Multiplication Quizzes
-Students will have a timed quiz on T, W, and TH.

-They will complete fact homework on T, W, and TH nights to prepare.

-Students have 3 minutes to complete the quiz and must get at least 37/40 facts
correct to advance to the next set of facts. 

-Students can also create flashcards, use apps, or play online games to help them study.  www.multiplication.com is one the best...and it's free! 





Writing: Narratives-Crafting real stories  
-This week we continue revising our personal narratives
-For grammar (Mentor Sentence) we are studying vivid verbs. Students MAY bring home an extra practice sheet Thursday, but isn't mandatory to complete.  

-Students will have a Mentor Sentence quiz on Friday.    



Social Studies: Map Keys
